Applicants and persons wishing to propose a researcher to be appointed as a fellow are requested to observe the following guidelines.

Proposals and applications should be submitted to the Academic Director, Professor Dr. Bärbel Friedrich, Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald, D-17487 Greifswald, by the deadline stated in the respective advertisement. Overseas applicants may submit their applications to the Academic Director by e-mail to info(at)wiko-greifswald.de.

No particular form is prescribed for applications and proposals. The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg requests that proposals should be accompanied by the documents required from applicants together with a declaration by the proposer that the person proposed would accept an appointment as an Alfried Krupp Fellow.

Applications should refer to the semester or academic year named in the respective advertisement. If alternative periods for research in Greifswald might be possible, these should be stated precisely.

Applicants are requested to append a CV, a list of publications to date and a five- to ten-page précis of the research project they would like to realize or complete during their stay in Greifswald. It is also recommended to document the methods to be used and the current state of the project in a suitable way. The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg would welcome it if proposals and applications show how the respective project may help to enhance the excellence of research and teaching at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald.

If more than one academic apply jointly for a research period at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg, the project should be described so as to make the individual contribution of each member of the group clear.

The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg would welcome it if the home institutions of Alfried Krupp Senior Fellows were to make a contribution towards financing their stay at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg. One way would be, for example, for a fellow to be granted paid leave by his or her home institution for the period at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg and the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg to bear the costs of having a junior academic substitute for him or her. Proposals and applications for appointments as Alfried Krupp Senior Fellows should thus if possible include details of how the respective home institution might share the costs of the research stay at the Institute.

The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg assumes that as a rule Alfried Krupp Junior Fellows will be granted unpaid leave by their home institutions for the duration of their stay. If a researcher's home institution is prepared to participate in financing their stay at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg, this will be particularly welcomed. In such a case details of the method and level of participation are requested.

Proposals and applications must be submitted by the deadline stated in the respective advertisement.

The academic director will scrutinize the proposals and applications and present her proposal for appointment to the academic advisory committee.

The academic advisory committee will scrutinize the academic director's proposal for appointment and make a recommendation for appointment to the Board of Trustees of the Stiftung Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald.

Alfried Krupp Fellows are appointed on the basis of this recommendation.

Appointments for the academic year 2010/11 are expected to be made in December 2009.
