Characterization of chromosomal translocations in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia
Chromosomal translocations are frequent events in malignant transformation. Many of these alterations have been clarified down to the molecular level and allow insight into the process of malignant transformation.
However, many of these translocations are not clarified to the molecular level so far. Identification of genes located at the chromosomal breakpoints may give important insights into the underlying pathogenetic mechanism of transformation and allow identification of new therapeutic target genes.
In this project, translocations were clarified down to the molecular level. This allows insight into processes leading to the chromosomal translocation and led to the identification of potential new therapeutic target genes. Identification of disease "specific" target genes allowing "targeted" therapies is one of the main therapeutic goals.
