Application Information & Procedure
Public calls for applications are made for the Alfried Krupp Senior Fellowships and Alfried Krupp Junior Fellowships. Applications are sent to the Academic Director and accepted until the deadline given in the call for applications. Applicants and people who would like to nominate a researcher to the Kolleg’s Academic Director are asked to take note of the information for applicants.
If possible, Alfried Krupp Senior Fellows should find an early career researcher as a substitute at their respective home institution during their stay in Greifswald. The Kolleg covers the cost of the substitute. In addition, Alfried Krupp Senior Fellows are given an apartment and a workstation in the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg free of charge. For Alfried Krupp Senior Fellows who cannot be given a leave of absence with pay from their home institutions, the Kolleg can make an individualised offer.
Alfried Krupp Junior Fellows are funded based on the high expectations of the applicants’ scientific achievements. This fellowship is typically tax-free in Germany. In addition, Alfried Krupp Junior Fellows are given an apartment and a workstation in the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg free of charge.
Travel and lab costs are not covered by the Kolleg. It is expected that Alfried Krupp Fellows make significant progress on an important research project during their stay and, if possible, conclude the project. It is expected that the Fellows live in the Kolleg. The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg welcomes Senior Fellows to offer a course for University of Greifswald students during their stay at the Kolleg.
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg accepts applications until the deadline given in the call for applications.
Applications should be sent electronically in a single PDF-document to the Scientific Leader via the application form and should include the following information: a curriculum vitae, awards and prizes, a list of previous publications (and if applicable highlight the publications relevant to the proposed project) and a five page (at most) proposal for the project they intend to carry out or complete in Greifswald. It is recommended that the methods and status of the project are documented appropriately. Please also supply an abstract of the project (at most half a page).
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg welcomes applications that make clear what contribution the respective project would make to strengthening excellence in research and teaching at the University of Greifswald.
Applications should be for the semester or academic year stated in the call for applications. If several periods of time are possible for a research stay in Greifswald, these should be listed in detail.
If more than one scientist applies together for a research stay at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg, please upload your applications in one pdf-file via the application form. The research project should be described such that the contribution of each individual member of the group is recognizable.
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg welcomes home institutions to make a contribution to financing the Alfried Krupp Senior Fellows’ stays at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg. This can be done, for example, by granting a Fellow a paid leave of absence from their home institution for research at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg while the Wissenschaftskolleg takes on the costs of the Fellow’s substitution by an early career researcher. Applications for selecting Alfried Krupp Senior Fellows should therefore include if possible information about possible contributions from the home institution of the person being nominated or the applicant to the costs of the research stay at the Kolleg.
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg assumes that Alfried Krupp Junior Fellows will be given an unpaid leave of absence by their home institution for the duration of their research stay. If a scientist’s home institution is prepared to contribute financially to the research stay at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg, this is particularly welcome. In this case, information about the type and amount of possible contributions is requested.
The Academic Director reviews the nominations and applications submitted and makes a suggestion to the Academic Advisory Board.
The Academic Advisory Board reviews the suggestions from the Academic Director and makes a recommendation to the Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
Alfried Krupp Fellows are selected by the Kolleg based on this recommendation.
