On 20 June 2000, the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the University of Greifswald established the Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald Foundation. As a foundation under civil law, in accordance with its statutes it contributes to the promotion of science and research at the University of Greifswald in particular by operating the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald.

The foundation is independent and enables scientific work of long-term high quality. This independence was the key objective pursued by Professor Dr. h. c. mult. Berthold Beitz, the Chair of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation’s Board of Trustees, with his initiative to establish the Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald Foundation.

The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation contributed a significant portion of the foundation’s equity in the form of property as well as buildings and their furnishings. The finance capital comes equally from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the University of Greifswald. In addition, annual contributions are made by all founders and in the form of permanent personnel funds from the University.
