Fellow-Projekt: „Measles Evolution: From Pre-Vaccination to Modern Diversity“
This project aims to study the evolutionary dynamics of the measles virus (MeV) in the context of vaccination and host-virus interactions, particularly by comparing it with the eradicated Rinderpest virus (RPV). The research will involve sequencing 26 historical MeV samples and using advanced molecular clock dating and to analyze the evolution of measles variants over time and geography. By employing a multidisciplinary approach that combines paleovirology, epidemiology, and molecular evolutionary modeling, the project seeks to develop new analytical methods to enhance understanding of measles evolution and inform future control strategies.
