The exhibition presents the results of a collaboration between microbiologist Dr Marie-Katherin Zühlke and artists Astrid Brünner and Susanne Gabler. Through this project, the participants aim to raise awareness of the current state of our oceans and encourage a more mindful approach to their management. The artistic-scientific research draws, amongst other things, on the findings of the DFG-funded Transregio project “Carbon sequestration at Å resolution – CONCENTRATE” conducted by the Universities of Greifswald and Bremen. The collaborators approach the exhibition’s theme through various media, with their works highlighting the complexity of transformation processes in marine ecosystems. The exhibition pieces have been created as part of an ongoing process of interdisciplinary exchange since 2023. They include works from the fields of printmaking, painting, WordArt and performance.
Microbiologist Marie-Katherin Zühlke is a research assistant at the Institute of Pharmacy at the University of Greifswald and a visiting researcher at the Station Biologique de Roscoff.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Astrid Brünner conducts research into phenomena such as perception, resonance and communication.
Through the immediacy of her Word Art, object art and participatory art actions, the artist Susanne Gabler offers reflections on the issues of our time.
