Fellow project: "Digital infrastructure and regional disparities in comparison between eastern and western Germany“

With the increase of flexible forms of work (home office or mobile work) special requirements for new technologies and for the quality and availability of internet connections emerge. In order to make companies, employees, customers and suppliers stay in contact with one another regularly, it is important to have a good broadband infrastructure. However, a fast broadband network is not available all over Germany. The aim of the research project is to display regional disparities and the changes with regard to the quality and availability of the digital infrastructure in Germany, and to investigate the influence of digital infrastructure on firms’ productivity and the production activities especially for Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and between eastern and western German regions. Based on the research results, important policy recommendations can be derived, which will aim to improve the digital network and to support companies in a region and in particular for Mecklenburg-West Pomerania.
