Marek Toman will talk about his children book Můj golem/Der Prager Golem – why it was written as a children book and why the comics form was chosen. The role of pictures, the role of letters. The place of Der Prager Golem among other Toman´s books. The feedback to Der Prager Golem, the translation, the theatre version. The real golem story behind. The past and presence of Jewish culture in the Czech one. The role of Jewish folklore in the Czech national enlightment and the presence of Jewish topics in the Czech literature. The lecture will be accompanied with visual materials. M. Toman will be happy to reply to the questions of the audience.

Marek Toman is a Czech writer, journalist, theatre author and actor. Several his novels and children books were translated in eight languages. The topics include history, Jewish themes, totalitarian times, promotion of reading. Toman´s novel Lob des Opportunismus is narrated by a gigantic Czernin palace in Prague, the seat of nazi, communist and democratic institutions. Toman´s children book Der Prager Golem retells the classic story of Jewish and Czech folklore about an artificial being. The book was nominated for Magnesia Litera Czech award and included in White Ravens catalogue of exceptional children books (International Youth Library, Munich).
