Application documents
Alfried Krupp Senior Fellowships and Alfried Krupp Junior Fellowships are advertised publicly. Applications should be addressed to the Research Director of the Institute, Professor Dr Thomas Klinger, and may only be submitted electronically via the application form, which is only available during the current call for applications.
Applications should relate to one of the advertised semesters or to the advertised academic year. If, alternatively, several periods within the advertised academic year are suitable for the research stay in Greifswald, these should be specified in the application.

Letters of recommendation
Letters of recommendation are not mandatory for the application process. They should not be anonymous and may either be uploaded via the application form together with the application documents or sent separately by email to infowiko-greifswaldde. They may also be sent by post to: Stiftung Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald, 17487 Greifswald
Letters of recommendation may be submitted until 30 September 2026.

Joint applications by several researchers
Joint applications by several researchers wishing to carry out interdisciplinary projects in Greifswald are permitted. Groups of applicants are asked to ensure that each member completes the application form separately and indicates that it is a group application in the relevant field. The research project should be described in such a way that the contribution of each member of the group is clearly identifiable.

Selection process
To ensure the fairness and objectivity of the application process, the procedure is conducted anonymously as far as possible. Applicants’ personal data is concealed or encrypted by a neutral body for the first round of assessment. The Scientific Director reviews the applications received in a second round of assessment and submits a recommendation for appointment to the Scientific Advisory Board. Alfried Krupp Fellows are appointed on the basis of this recommendation.

Funding
The fellowships are endowed in line with the high expectations placed on the applicants’ academic achievements. All fellows are also provided with an apartment and a study at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg free of charge. The Kolleg does not cover additional insurance costs, travel expenses, laboratory costs or other project-related expenses.

Co-funding
Applicants for a Senior Fellowship are asked to check whether a research semester at their home institution can be combined with a Fellowship at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg. Information regarding any potential contribution by the home institution towards the costs of the research stay is welcome. The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg assumes that Alfried Krupp Junior Fellows will be granted leave of absence from their home institution for the duration of their research stay. Here too, a contribution from the home institution towards the funding of the stay is welcomed.

Families at the Kolleg
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg supports applicants who wish to take up their fellowship together with their partner and/or children. Subject to availability, the Kolleg provides suitable accommodation. The Kolleg’s fully furnished flats are provided free of rent and service charges for Fellows and their children up to the age of 14.
The Kolleg also assists Fellows in finding nurseries, schools and other childcare options, working in collaboration with the University of Greifswald’s Family Service. In addition, the Kolleg provides information on leisure activities and services for families in Greifswald.
Most of the Kolleg’s events are also open to accompanying persons. On request, the Kolleg can also arrange contacts with members of the University of Greifswald and local non-university research institutions.
