Quality of Life and Participation in Young People with Chronic Physical and Mental Health Conditions and Disabilities

Chair: Professor Dr. Silke Schmidt (Greifswald), Professor Dr. Ute Thyen (Lübeck)

The International Symposium on “Quality of Life and Participation in Young People with Chronic Physical and Mental Health Conditions and Disabilities” intends to bring together researchers and practitioners with an interest in the concepts of quality of life, participation in youth with disabilities. The focus will be on international expertise and perspectives and interdisciplinary exchange. In addition to the traditional fields such as medicine, rehabilitation and nursing care, epidemiology and psychology we will have a special focus on diversity sociology and ethics. There will be keynote lectures but also a high level of participatory input through four interdisciplinary workshops to promote concepts for further research. The symposium is predicated on the European Study on Participation of Children with Cerebral Palsy in Europe (SPARCLE) but will include the themes of transition in young adulthood and the impact of disability on the achievement of autonomy.

We invite national and international attendants interested in this emerging field and we hope to increase the awareness for the inclusion of people with disabilities in research and policy making.

We would like to invite attendants to present posters about current and anticipated projects. Travel grants are available upon request.
